If a person is struck with complete paralysis in the first part of the body, unable to move and remaining constantly in his bed on his back sleeping, is it obligatory for him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : If a person is struck with complete paralysis in the right side of his body such that he is unable to move and remains constantly in his bed sleeping on his back, and we turn him over, is it obligatory for him to pray? And how does he perform wudu? Knowing that he is unable to maintain ritual purity, and that in the few cases where he wakes up, he is not fully aware of those around him. I ask for advice and guidance in this question?

The Shaykh : We ask Allah for health for us and for him. If the patient is in this condition, then if his mind remains, prayer is obligatory upon him to the extent of his ability. He prays with water if he is able; if he is not able, he prays with tayammum. He indicates with his head if he is unable to bow and prostrate, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to 'Imran ibn Husayn:
offer prayer in standing condition; if you are unable to do so, then in sitting condition: if you are then at your side صل قائماً ، فإن لم تستطع فقاعداً ، فإن لم تستطع فعلى جنب
Sunan Abi Dawud 952Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
As for if the person does not have reason and has no mind or discernment, then prayer is dropped from him, because the pen is lifted from the insane person until he regains consciousness. And there is no doubt that if he has his mind and we oblige him to pray and to what is obligatory for it in terms of ritual purity, it will be a hardship for his family as long as he is paralyzed. But his family should seek reward from Allah and be patient, and Allah will make for them a relief and an exit.
The summary is: he does it if he has his mind, doing what he is able of the pillars of prayer and its obligations. And if he does not have his mind, there is no prayer upon him.
