There is someone who sees a man and says, "I am the Messenger of Allah," and he may be contrary to what is established about him, and he may see him committing a major sin. How do you reconcile this with the hadith, "The Shaytan does not take the form of me"?

The questioner : Also, there is a question, O Shaykh: Is the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever saw me (in a dream) while sleeping then he has indeed seen me. For indeed the Shaitan can not resemble me. من رآني في المنام فقد رآني فإن الشيطان لا يتمثل بي

Question: There is someone who sees a man and says, "I am the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)," and he may be contrary to what is established about him, and he may be involved in a major sin.

The Shaykh : And he may be.

The questioner : Involved in a major sin and says, "I am the Messenger of Allah." So how do you reconcile the hadith with this vision?

The Shaykh : The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who saw me in a dream in fact saw me, for the satan does not appear in my form. من رآني في المنام فقد رآني حقا فإن الشيطان لا يتمثل بي
Sahih Muslim 2266a

Based on this, if a person sees someone in his dream and it occurs to him that he is the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or if he hears someone saying, "This is the Messenger of Allah," then he must apply what he saw to what he knows of the physical characteristics of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). If it matches, then it is him; if it contradicts, then it is not him. For example, if he sees a person and his image is not clear to him, then it is not the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). If the image is clear, he must apply it to what he knows of his characteristics. If the characteristic matches, then it is the Messenger of Allah; if it does not match, then it is not the Messenger of Allah. Yes.
