A man has two wives and a disagreement has arisen with one of them; is it permissible for him to stipulate that she give some of her time to the other, or to divorce her?

The questioner : Peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.
The Shaykh : Has the time ended? The monitor indicates that the time is up.
The questioner : One question, if Allah wills.
The Shaykh : It should not be long.
The questioner : If Allah wills.
The Shaykh : Very well.
The questioner : There is a man married to two women, and estrangement occurred between him and one of them. He gave her a choice between two things: either he releases her, or she remains with him on the condition that she relinquish some of her time to the second wife, or the first?
The Shaykh : There is no harm in this. He may say: "I am unable to be just between you two. If you wish to remain with me as I am, that is fine; otherwise, I will divorce you." He has the right to do this. The evidence for this is that Sawdah bint Zam'ah (may Allah be pleased with her) was advanced in age and felt that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would divorce her. She said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have gifted my day to 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her)." She gifted her day to 'A'ishah. So the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) allocated two days to 'A'ishah: her own day and Sawdah's day. Sawdah had no day of her own. So there is nothing wrong with this.
And with this, this meeting ends. I ask Allah to bring us back to a meeting like this. I think we will not have a meeting next week, but the week after that, if Allah wills, because we have a trip to Makkah. I do not know when we will return, Thursday or before Thursday.
It does not contradict if it is not long, because there are ten minutes left until the adhan. Yes? Good.
