The questioner : Peace be upon you.
The Shaykh : And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah.
The questioner : O Shaykh, they say I heard a person say: that al-A'raf is a barrier between Paradise and the Fire, and that they remain in it for a number of years?
The Shaykh : Yes, when the Day of Resurrection comes, people are divided into three groups: a group whose good deeds outweigh their bad deeds; these are not punished and enter Paradise. Another group whose bad deeds outweigh their good deeds; these are deserving of punishment according to their bad deeds, then they are saved to Paradise. And a third group whose bad and good deeds are equal; these are the people of al-A'raf. They are not from the people of the Fire, nor are they from the people of Paradise, but they are in a high, elevated barzakh (interval) where they see the Fire and see Paradise. They remain there as long as Allah wills, and in the end, they enter Paradise. In the end, they enter Paradise. This is part of the perfection of the justice of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), that He gave every person what he deserves. So whoever’s good deeds outweigh his bad deeds is from the people of Paradise, and whoever’s bad deeds outweigh his good deeds is punished in the Fire as Allah wills, and whoever’s good and bad deeds are equal is from the people of al-A'raf. But al-A'raf is not a permanent abode; the permanent abode is either Paradise or the Fire. May Allah make me and you from the people of Paradise.
The questioner : Amen.
