How should we deal with Rafidhi students who study at the university with Muslim students, and is it obligatory for the teacher to be just with them?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes

The questioner : It is well known, O Shaykh, that in the Prophet’s City, may the best of prayers and peace be upon its inhabitants, there are many Rafidah among us, and they study with us in all the schools.
So some teachers ask: Is it obligatory for me to be just between them and the students who are from the people of the Sunnah, or should I be short with them and not give them their due?
Because, as he says, they are enemies of Allah and His Messenger, and as many scholars have said, they are disbelievers who have gone out of the religion?

The Shaykh : Yes. First, I liked your saying "the Prophet’s City," because what is famous among people is "the Blessed City," and the correct term is "the Prophet’s City," because the light was in Makkah as well before it was in the City.
Second: It is obligatory for the teacher to judge with justice. Allah the Mighty and Majestic said:
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just يا أيها الذين آمنوا كونوا قوامين لله شهداء بالقسط ولا يجرمنكم شنئان قوم على ألا تعدلوا
[Al-Ma'idah 5:8]
meaning, do not let your hatred of a people prevent you from being just
Be just; that is nearer to righteousnessاعدلوا هو أقرب للتقوى
[Al-Ma'idah 5:8]
. The scholars even said that it is obligatory for a judge, if two litigants come to him, one Muslim and the other a disbeliever, to seat them in one place before him. He does not say to the Muslim, "Come here," and to the disbeliever, "Go there." He does not place them both before him and be just between them in speech, being harsh in speech to the disbeliever and gentle in speech to the Muslim. He does not say to the Muslim, "May Allah bless your morning," and not say it to the disbeliever, but he makes them equal in the matter of the trial, because this is justice.
So these students, if they submit their answers, let him look at the answer regardless of who the person is. Let him correct based on what was before him of the statement. If it is correct, it is correct, and if it is wrong, it is wrong.
Also, it is not permissible for him, if he knows the answer, to look at the student’s condition beforehand, whether he is understanding or not, because some people, or some teachers, estimate the students’ grades based on what they knew of them, and this is a mistake. It is obligatory to estimate the grades or the ranking based on what was submitted to him in the final answer, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
I only judge according to what I hear. إنما أقضي بنحو ما أسمع
.
And often the student is good, but he misunderstands the answer or the question. He understands the question as meaning the questioner intended such and such, and he answers based on that understanding. Or he misunderstands the answer, thinking that the answer to this question is such and such, and it is wrong. Yes, for example, if the question is "How many categories are there in hadith?" the student might think the intended meaning is how many categories there are in terms of number, so he says: mutawatir, mashhur, aziz, and gharib.
And another student might misunderstand that the intended meaning is the ranks of hadith in terms of validity, so he says: sahih, hasan, and da'if. And the sahih is either in itself or through another, and the hasan is either in itself or through another.
So the important thing is that it is obligatory for the teacher, when the answer papers are presented to him, to correct based on the answer, regardless of the one who answered. And likewise, during the teaching, he must be just between the students no matter what the situation is. And by this method, he opens up far horizons that he may not realize, because the opponent understands that he did not challenge him, so he desires him and says, "This is a fair person, this is just." Yes, and that leads him to become accustomed to him and accept what he says.
Therefore, we advise our brother teachers in the countries mentioned, where the people of the Sunnah and the people of innovation mix, to try, as much as possible, to reconcile the people of innovation and draw them to them, because the youth are soft and their nature is gentle. And for this reason, the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Kill the old men who are polytheists, but spare their children. اقتلوا شيوخ المشركين واستبقوا شرخهم
Sunan Abi Dawud 2670Da'if (Al-Albani)
meaning, their youth, you draw them. But if he treats them with harshness and the others with gentleness, or treats them with strictness in correction and the others with leniency, or treats them by dropping them while they are answering correctly, there is no doubt that this will generate in their hearts hatred and aversion, even for the truth that was with this teacher. Yes.
