Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu al-Walid narrated to us, saying: Ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to us from al-Zuhri from 'Abbad ibn Tamim from his uncle from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
He should not return (from prayer) unless he hears a sound or perceives a smell (of passing wind). لا ينصرف حتى يسمع صوتا أو يجد ريحا
Sahih Muslim 361
.

The Shaykh : The sound and the gas, from where do they come out? From the two passages.
Now, if someone were to say that the Messenger said:
He should not return (from prayer) unless he hears a sound or perceives a smell (of passing wind). لا ينصرف حتى يسمع صوتا أو يجد ريحا
Sahih Muslim 361
, but what if he urinated?
The student: ...

The Shaykh : What if he urinated? The Messenger said:
he hears a sound or perceives a smell (of passing wind) حتى يسمع صوتا أو يجد ريحا
Sunan Abi Dawud 176Sahih (Al-Albani)
?
We say: The reason for this is that a person feels something in his belly and it becomes unclear to him whether something has come out of him or not. If it is unclear to him whether a sound or a gas has come out of him, that is the subject of the hadith. Then we say: Suppose a person has diarrhea and he feels it, then he becomes certain that something has come out of him from this diarrhea; in that case, he will find a gas, and thus it falls under the hadith.
