Explanation of the Book of Purification-15

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Then he said: "And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If any of you has a pain in his abdomen, but is doubtful whether or not anything has issued from him, he should not leave the mosque unless he hears a sound or perceives a smell.
Mishkat al-Masabih 306
Muslim narrated it"
:
His saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
If any of you has a pain in his abdomen
Mishkat al-Masabih 306
: means something of the movement that is wind.
and is unsure فأشكل عليه
That is: doubt.
whether or not anything has issued from him, be should not leave the mosque
Sahih Muslim 362
:
whether something has come out أخرج منه شيء
The intended meaning of "something" here is wind.
or not anything has issued from him, be أم لا فلا يخرج
Sahih Muslim 362
"Or not": He said: "Am" and this is the most eloquent, and it is permissible to replace it with "aw" or "aw la," but when it comes in such a construction, "am" is preferable.
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: If any one of you has pain in his abdomen, but is doubtful whether or not anything has issued from him, be should not leave the mosque unless he hears a sound or perceives a smell.
Sahih Muslim 362
Why?
To perform wudu, and the meaning is not "let him not leave the mosque" because one who has broken his purity is forbidden to remain in the mosque, but rather "let him not leave the mosque" in order to perform wudu.
until he hears a sound
If what came out has a sound.
or smells a smell
If it does not have a sound, because what comes out of wind is either that it has a heard sound, or that it has a smell, or that both things are present, or that both things are absent, but a person becomes certain, like a man who neither smells nor hears, that it has come out even if he did not hear or smell.
This hadith indicates that if a person doubts about a state of ritual impurity while he is in a state of purity, he is not obligated to perform wudu, because the purity is certain and the wudu is... what?
The student: The remaining wudu.

The Shaykh : The remaining and the state of impurity?
The student: Doubtful.

The Shaykh : Doubtful, and certainty is not abandoned for doubt, this is a rule, meaning the scholars derived rules from this hadith, among them: "Certainty is not removed by doubt", and among them: "The original state remains as it was", and among them: "Certainty is removed by the certainty that supervenes upon it", due to his saying:
he hears a sound or perceives a smell (of passing wind)
Sunan Abi Dawud 176Sahih (Al-Albani)
