The reciter: "And we asked Jabir ibn 'Abd Allah, and he said: Do not approach her until he circumambulates between al-Safa and al-Marwah".

The Shaykh : The apparent meaning of these two reports is that it is permissible for a man to have intercourse with his wife after the circumambulation and the walking between al-Safa and al-Marwah, and before the shortening of the hair. The scholars have differed on this matter. Some of them said: "If he has performed the circumambulation and the walking, his 'Umrah is complete, and the shortening of the hair is merely the release from the prohibitions". The meaning of the release from the prohibitions is that he shaves or shortens his hair in order to indicate that he has finished what? He has finished the state of ihram. Others said: "Rather, he does not approach his wife until he has performed the circumambulation, the walking, and the shaving or shortening of the hair". This is the well-known position among our jurists (may Allah have mercy on them), that he does not approach his wife until he completes the 'Umrah with its two pillars, the circumambulation and the walking, and its obligatory act, which is the shaving or shortening of the hair.
