Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Noble Shaykh, I am currently building a house for myself, but my funds are limited. I wish to borrow an amount not exceeding one hundred thousand riyals, and, praise be to Allah, I have the ability to repay it in monthly installments. However, I am hesitant because of the texts regarding debt. What is your advice to me and to my Muslim brothers, may Allah reward you?

The Shaykh : My advice to you and to my Muslim brothers is to stay as far away as possible from incurring debt, whether by borrowing or otherwise, because debt is a serious matter. In fact, martyrdom in the cause of Allah expiates every sin except debt. Even the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would not pray over a person who died in debt without the means to pay it off, until Allah opened the way for him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) began to commit to paying off the debts of the deceased. But if you have a pressing need...

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : ...to complete the construction of your house, and you have the means to pay it off, but it is not currently available to you, and you borrow from someone, whether on a deferred basis or not, I hope there is no harm in that. However, strive with all your might not to borrow or incur debt from anyone, and Allah will provide you with a way out. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. This is a listener to the program, Abu Muhammad from Riyadh, who says.
