The Shaykh : There is no doubt; it is the greatest proof that they do not want the truth. If they had wanted the truth, these two men would have been the most beloved of people to them after the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), given their companionship of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and their good leadership of the Muslims, until the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
So if you had obeyed Abu Bakr and Umar, you would have gone on the right path إن يطيعوا أبا بكر وعمر يرشدوا
Sahih Muslim 681
, and he said:
Follow the two after me, Abu Bakr and 'Umar. اقتدوا باللذين من بعدي أبا بكر وعمر
