My father passed away when I was young, and I do not know whether he performed the obligatory Hajj or not, even though his financial situation was very poor. What should I do?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : My father and my mother passed away when I was young, and I do not know whether they performed the obligatory Hajj or not. As I was told, their financial situation was very poor. What should I do? May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : I inform you that your parents are not required to perform Hajj in this situation, and there is no deficiency in their religion for which they can be blamed. This is because Hajj is not obligatory except for the one who is able to do so, as Allah the Exalted said:
And [due] to Allah from the people is a pilgrimage to the House - for whoever is able to find thereto a way وَلِلَّهِ عَلَى النَّاسِ حِجُّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا
[Ali 'Imran 3:97]
So do not worry, be anxious, or be distressed about their not performing Hajj, as long as they were poor. However, if you wish to perform Hajj and 'Umrah on their behalf, you should start with your mother first, and then your father second, after you have performed the obligatory Hajj for yourself. This is good. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
