The Statements of the Salaf on the Condemnation of Theology and on Wasil ibn 'Ata, the Founder of the Mu'tazilah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Fine, he said: The people of theology are condemned by the Imams of faith, so theology is condemned in the view of the Imams, to the extent that some of them said: "Whoever learns theology has become a Zindiq", and al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "My ruling regarding the people of theology is that they should be beaten with palm branches and sandals, and paraded through the tribes, and it should be said: This is the recompense for one who abandoned the Book and the Sunnah and turned to the science of theology".
He said: "Every Jahmi" is a reference to whom? To Jahm ibn Safwan.
"And a Mu'tazili" is a reference to 'Amr ibn 'Ubayd and Wasil ibn 'Ata, for Wasil ibn 'Ata withdrew from the gathering of al-Hasan al-Basri and began to establish the doctrine of the Mu'tazilah, saying: The one who commits a major sin is in a state between two states, neither a believer nor a disbeliever.
