Reading from the commentary on the ten aspects of the preference of the two gardens mentioned in Surat al-Rahman over the other two gardens, and the Shaykh’s summary thereof

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student : The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "And He the Exalted said:
But for he who has feared the position of his Lord are two gardens -
[Ar-Rahman 55:46]
He mentioned them, then He said:
And below them both [in excellence] are two [other] gardens -
[Ar-Rahman 55:62]
So these are four. A group said:
Below them من دونهما
meaning the ones closer to the Throne, so they would be above them. And a group said: below them, and this is in the language of the Arabs, and in al-Sahah"
.

The Shaykh : And what is this?
The student: "And this is in the language of the Arabs, and in al-Sahah: 'dun' is the opposite of 'fawq' (above), and it is said: 'dun hadha' meaning closer to it.
And the context indicates the preference of the first two gardens from aspects:
The first is His saying:
Having branches
a plural of 'funn', which is the branch, or a plural of 'fun', which is the variety, meaning: various kinds of fruits and others, and that was not mentioned for the two after them. The second"
.

The Shaykh : What did he say about the two after them?
In both of them are fruit and palm trees and pomegranates.
[Ar-Rahman 55:68]
in contrast to
In both of them are of every fruit, two kinds.
[Ar-Rahman 55:52]
. Yes.
The student: "The second:
In both of them are two springs, flowing.
[Ar-Rahman 55:50]
And in the other two:
In both of them are two springs, spouting.
[Ar-Rahman 55:66]
which is the gushing spring, and the maid: the one who wanders, and she is better than the gushing spring, because it includes both gushing and flowing.
The third:
In both of them are of every fruit, two kinds.
[Ar-Rahman 55:52]
And in the other two:
In both of them are fruit and palm trees and pomegranates.
[Ar-Rahman 55:68]
And there is no doubt that the description of the first two is more complete"
.

The Shaykh : Be patient.
Having branches
Yes, it corresponds to
Two heavy ones
In both of them are fruit and palm trees and pomegranates.
[Ar-Rahman 55:68]
We just said:
In both of them are fruit and palm trees and pomegranates.
[Ar-Rahman 55:68]
and what corresponds to:
In both of them are fruit and palm trees and pomegranates.
[Ar-Rahman 55:68]
corresponds to it
In both of them are of every fruit, two kinds.
[Ar-Rahman 55:52]
, yes.
The student: "And there is no doubt that the first is more complete. A group said: the pairs are fresh and dry, and there is a consideration in that. And a group said: a known variety, and a variety of strange shape. And others said: two types, and they did not add more. And the apparent is that it is the sweet and the sour, and the white and the red, because the difference in the varieties of fruits is more wonderful and more delicious to the eye and the mouth. And Allah knows best.
The fourth:
[They are] reclining on beds whose linings are of silk brocade
[Ar-Rahman 55:54]
And this is an indication of the excellence of the backrests and their importance, and in the other two
Reclining on green cushions and beautiful fine carpets.
[Ar-Rahman 55:76]
and 'rafrif' was interpreted as seats and carpets. And in any case, he did not describe it with what the carpets of the first two were described with.
The fifth:
and the fruit of the two gardens is hanging low.
[Ar-Rahman 55:54]
meaning: close and easy, so they can reach it however they wish, and that was not mentioned for the other two.
The sixth:
In them are women limiting [their] glances
[Ar-Rahman 55:56]
meaning: upon their husbands, so they do not desire anyone else"
.

The Shaykh : Allah is the Greatest!
The student: "And he said about the other two:
Fair ones reserved in pavilions -
[Ar-Rahman 55:72]
And the one who restricts her gaze to her husband is more complete than the one who is restricted by someone else.
The seventh"
.

The Shaykh : From the one who is restricted by someone else.
The student: "The one who is restricted by someone else.
The seventh:"

The Shaykh :
with downcast eyes قاصرات الطرف
We said 'qasirat al-taraf' (restricting their gaze) upon their husbands, this is one meaning. The second meaning is that their husbands also do not look at anyone else because of their perfection and beauty, so they restrict the gaze of the husbands. So according to the first aspect, the 'tarf' (gaze) is restricted, so it is from the chapter of adding the active participle to its agent, and according to the second, it is from the chapter of adding it to its object. Now, the verse allows for both, and the rule is that we take it to mean both, so they restrict their gaze upon their husbands and do not look at anyone else, and they likewise restrict the gaze of their husbands upon them, such that a person does not desire any wife other than this one.
As for the other, he said:
Fair ones reserved in pavilions -
[Ar-Rahman 55:72]
They are restricted. Yes.
The reader: "The seventh: that he described them with the likeness of lapis lazuli and coral in the clarity of their color and its radiance and beauty" .

The Shaykh : Now, if someone says: In the tents, what leads to the preference?
[Ar-Rahman 55:72]
Does it not lead to the preference? Or is it said - yes? - or is it said: it does not lead to the preference, because the first ones were not mentioned in the tents, so they are wandering in the tents and in the open spaces and everywhere, and despite that they are restricting their gaze, so the apparent is that his saying:
in the tents في الخيام
does not indicate preference, yes.
The reader: "The seventh: that he described them with the likeness of lapis lazuli and coral in the clarity of their color and its radiance and beauty, and that was not mentioned for the one after them.
The eighth:
Is the reward for good [anything] but good?
[Ar-Rahman 55:60]
And this necessitates that their people are from the people of absolute, complete excellence, so their reward was with complete excellence.
The ninth: that he made them the reward for the one who feared his standing before him, and the fearful are of two types: the near ones, and the people of the right hand, so he mentioned the gardens of the near ones, then the gardens of the people of the right hand.
The tenth: that he said:
And below them both [in excellence] are two [other] gardens -
[Ar-Rahman 55:62]
, and the context indicates that it is the opposite of 'above', so the near ones had the two elevated gardens, and the people of the right hand had the two gardens below them, and the stronger position is that each one has two gardens. And it was said: for the group of the fearful, they share in them.
And the first is stronger by his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
they are two gardens in the parks of Paradise
One of them is: the reward for fulfilling the commands, and the second is: the reward for avoiding the prohibitions"
. End of his speech.

The Shaykh : Now, if someone says: In the other two gardens he said:
In them are good and beautiful women -
[Ar-Rahman 55:70]
and that was not mentioned for the first two? He said:
In them are women limiting [their] glances
[Ar-Rahman 55:56]
.
So the answer is: that his saying:
in them فيهنّ
along with his saying in the rest of the verses:
in them فيهما
indicates that the descriptions of the houris in the four gardens all, meaning
good and beautiful things خيرات حسان
include the first two gardens, the first two gardens and the other two gardens, understood? The first two are distinguished by being
with downcast eyes قاصرات الطرف
in contrast to
[Ar-Rahman 55:72]
.
As for
good and beautiful things خيرات حسان
good in character, beautiful in face, this is comprehensive for the four gardens, and for this you find
In them are good and beautiful women -
[Ar-Rahman 55:70]
. And al-Jalalayn (may Allah have mercy on them) said:
in them فيهنّ
It does not refer - according to his interpretation - to the four gardens, but rather
in them فيهنّ
meaning: in their palaces and heights, but the correct is what you pointed to, and for this Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) did not mention this phrase as being specific to the other two gardens.
