The guidance regarding Abu Hurayrah’s action when he said, “The matter is in my hand,” and gestured with his hand.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes, Abu Hurayrah, the narrator of the hadith, did this. However, regarding a person speaking to the common people, the common person might understand that as a likeness. So one should not say it, because the intention behind it is to establish the reality of hearing and seeing, not to make a likeness. But among the common people, they might understand it as a likeness. For this reason, it was said, “Tell the people what they know,” meaning what their minds can grasp. Do you want Allah and His Messenger to be lied about? And Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said:
You will not tell a people a story that their minds cannot grasp except that it will be a trial for some of them. إنك لن تحدث قوما حديثا لا تبلغه عقولهم إلا كان لبعضهم فتنة
.
The student: ... They say He hears without an ear?

The Shaykh : He has no right to say it is without an ear. But the establishment of hearing does not necessitate the establishment of an ear, nor is it permissible, because they said about Allah what they do not know. Do you understand?
As for his saying “He sees with an eye,” this is because Allah the Exalted affirmed for Him an eye. Otherwise, He would say “He sees,” and we would not say “with an eye” or “with an eye.”
