Explanation of the Book of the Adhan-02b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Ma'la ibn Asad narrated to us, saying: Wahib narrated to us from Ayyub from Abu Qilabah from Malik ibn al-Huwayris: "I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with a group of my people, and we stayed with him for twenty nights. He was merciful and gentle. When he saw our longing for our families, he said:
Go back and stay with your families and teach them the religion, and offer the prayer and one of you should pronounce the Adhan for the prayer when its time is due and the oldest one amongst you should lead the prayer. ارجعوا فكونوا فيهم وعلموهم وصلوا فإذا حضرت الصلاة فليؤذن لكم أحدكم وليؤمكم أكبركم
Sahih al-Bukhari 628
.

The Shaykh : Yes. He said: "Who said that only one mu'adhdhin should call the adhan during travel? A person might ask: 'Are there two mu'adhdhins during travel, such that he would cite this heading?' We said: His intention, may Allah have mercy on him, is that it is not obligatory for us to appoint a mu'adhdhin for every day or for every prayer; rather, it is permissible to appoint a single mu'adhdhin. This is his intention, and Allah knows best. His intention is not that it is permissible to have multiple mu'adhdhins or that it is not permissible, but rather that it is not obligatory for us to appoint what? It is not obligatory for us to appoint a mu'adhdhin for every day. Then he mentioned the hadith of Malik ibn al-Huwayris (may Allah be pleased with him), that he came with a group of his people and stayed with him for twenty nights. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was merciful and gentle, merciful to those present and to those absent. When he saw our longing for our families—'saw' here means 'suspected'—that we were longing for our families, he said: 'Return and be among them,' meaning do not separate from them, 'and teach them and educate them,' as in another wording, 'and pray as you have seen me praying,' as in another wording as well. Then he said: 'When the time for prayer comes, let one of you call the adhan and let the eldest of you lead you.' The lam in his statement 'let one of you call the adhan' is the lam of command, and it is likewise in his statement 'let the eldest of you lead you,' but the mīm was moved to fath because of the meeting of two sakinahs.
