When the mu'adhdhin calls the adhan, should I continue reading the Qur'an, or should I remain silent and repeat what the mu'adhdhin says?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : And likewise, when the mu'adhdhin calls the adhan, should I continue reading the Qur'an, or should I remain silent and repeat what the mu'adhdhin says?

The Shaykh : When the mu'adhdhin calls the adhan, it is better to stop reading and respond to the mu'adhdhin, because this is a specific dhikr at a specific time, and reading the Qur'an can be done at any time. Therefore, the specific dhikr at its time, when its cause is present, is better than the general dhikr.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And although the general dhikr may be better in itself, the specific dhikr at its specific time, when its cause is present, is missed if you do not do it.
So, if you hear the mu'adhdhin while you are reading the Qur'an, stop reading the Qur'an and respond to the mu'adhdhin by saying what he says, except for "Hayya 'ala al-salah" and "Hayya 'ala al-falah," where you say: "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah." And in the Fajr adhan, if he says: "Al-salah khayrun min al-nawm," you also say what he says, according to the stronger position. Then, when you are finished, send blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his family, and then say: "O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and the established prayer, grant Muhammad the intercession and the high rank, and raise him to the praised position which You have promised him. Indeed, You do not break Your promise."
As for saying: "I am pleased with Allah as my Lord, Muhammad as my Messenger, and Islam as my religion," this is said at the end of the two testimonies, meaning during the adhan.

The questioner : Very well.

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you. The listener is your brother in Allah, 'Abd Allah Muhammad Shaykh Ibrahim. He says: O honorable Shaykh, the first question.
