A man intends to marry another woman, but he says

The questioner : A man intends to marry another woman, but he says: "I will look for a barren woman, because I have a wife who bears children, praise be to Allah, and I am among those who do not like having many children. We ask for guidance and advice in this matter. May you be rewarded?"
The Shaykh : The guidance and advice in this matter is that plural marriage is better than limiting oneself to one wife, if a person has financial capability, physical capability, and the ability to be just among the women. If he does not have financial capability, he should not burden himself with debts in order to marry. And if he does not have physical capability, such as having a weak or absent desire, he should also not marry more than one woman, lest he fail to fulfill what the new wife desires.
And if he is not capable of being just, he does not marry more than one woman, due to the saying of Allah the Exalted:[An-Nisa 4:3] If these three conditions are met—financial capability, physical capability, and safety from injustice and bias—then plural marriage is better, because it leads to the protection of more women, the increase of children expected through plural marriage, and the increase of the Muslim community. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) desired that his Ummah (community) be numerous, and he encouraged marrying the loving and fertile woman. He said: Bulugh al-Maram 8:3 This is the hadith or its meaning.
And the statementThe questioner : He desires to marry a barren woman because he does not like having many children. I wished I had not heard this in his question. If he had said: "I want to marry a barren woman to curb my desire and avoid the chaos that comes with children, or something similar that might be an excuse we would accept," that would be different. But for him to say: "I do not like having many children," while the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged that, I hope Allah forgives him for this, that He forgives this questioner for this statement. I hope it did not come from his heart. I say to him: If the three conditions I mentioned are met in your case, marry, and you should desire many children. How good it would be if you had four children from each wife in one year if you married four, for that is among the causes of provision, because Allah the Exalted said in His Book:[Al-An'am 6:151] He addressed the poor who kill their children because of poverty, and He began by mentioning the provision of the fathers before the children, saying: [Al-An'am 6:151] Even though they were destitute when they killed their children, the One who made them destitute is capable of making them wealthy. In fact, reality and evidence indicate that having many children is a cause for increased provision, if a person relies on Allah the Mighty and Majestic and places his trust in Him regarding the provision of his children. But what harms people and restricts them is their bad intentions and motives, where they think that the more children they have, the narrower their provision becomes, and they do not remember the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Hud 11:6].
Finally, I say to the questioner: Marry another, then a third, then a fourth, as long as the three conditions are present in you, but with a good intention. Ask Allah the Exalted for many children, their righteousness, and that they become leaders of the Ummah in knowledge and guidance, and defenders of the religion of Islam and the lands of Islam.
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh, and may Allah bless you and your knowledge, and benefit the Muslims through you.
