Explanation of the Book of the Adhan-10a

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: Abdullah ibn Muslimah narrated to us from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Salim ibn Abdullah from his father that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): used to raise his hands to the level of his shoulders when he began the prayer, when he said the takbir for bowing, and when he raised his head from bowing, he raised them likewise and said, "Allah hears the one who praises Him. Our Lord, to You belongs all praise." And he did not do that in prostration.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. This is an explanation of when the raising of the hands takes place. It says in al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) that it is done with the beginning. This implies that the raising begins at the start of the takbir and ends at the end of the takbir. Three descriptions have been reported regarding this: this is one of them; the second is that he says the takbir and then raises his hands; and the third is that he raises his hands and then says the takbir.
