Explanation of the Book of the Adhan-09b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Ibrahim ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi Fudayk narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi Dhab narrated to us from al-Maqburi from Abu Salama ibn Abd al-Rahman from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a mat which he would spread out during the day and make into a partition at night. So a group of people came to him and prayed behind him.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. The chapter "The Night Prayer" is a chapter of adding a thing to its circumstance, meaning prayer at night. The addition is based on the assumption of "in," or "from," or "for." If the added-to is a circumstance for the added, it is based on the assumption of "in," as in this heading. This is supported by the statement of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
Rather, [it was your] conspiracy of night and day when you were ordering us to disbelieve in Allah and attribute to Him equals. بل مكر الليل والنهار إذ تأمروننا أن نكفر بالله ونجعل له أندادا
[Saba 34:33]
So the addition here is based on the assumption of "in." The addition is based on the assumption of "from" if the second is a type of the first, such as "an iron ring," meaning a ring made of iron, where the ring is a type of the ring. "A wooden door," meaning a door made of wood, and this is common. It is based on the assumption of "for" in all other cases. Then the author (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned the hadith of Aisha that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a mat. The mat is a woven bed made from palm leaves, and it is one of the best types of bedding because it is soft, cool in the summer, and warm in the winter. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) used it and sat on it, but at night he would make it a partition, meaning he would make it a room and pray in it, may Allah’s prayers and peace be upon him. So a group of people came to him and prayed behind him. And this, may Allah know best, was in Ramadan, as indicated by other contexts. Yes, and "thaba" means that a group of people gathered to him and prayed behind him. Malik (may Allah have mercy on him) used this hadith as evidence that it is not a condition for the imam to have the intention of the followers, meaning the intention to be an imam. And that if a person prays and people pray behind him while he did not intend to lead them in prayer, but they made him their imam and followed him, then that is valid. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not know about them, as they were behind the mat. But perhaps after they gathered, they made a sound, so he intended to lead them.
