'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) added the adhan because of the people's need for it, and this need has now ceased due to the presence of clocks with people?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : ... He added this adhan because of the people's need for it in Madinah. Has the need ceased now?

The Shaykh : Why?

The questioner : Everyone has clocks with them now, so they know the time easily.

The Shaykh : Do you not know that a person becomes inattentive to the time? We often become inattentive, especially if a person is absorbed in research or absorbed in trade, and especially the people of the market if the market is active. By Allah, a person may remain for two or three hours without tiring, which is not correct.
But if someone asks: Does 'Umar have a basis in this matter? We say to him: Yes, there is a basis. For the adhan of Bilal before the appearance of the dawn is not for the Fajr prayer, but to wake the sleeper and make the one who is standing lie down, by the explicit Prophetic text.
So if the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) allowed Bilal to give the adhan not for the Fajr prayer, but for the one who is standing to lie down and the sleeper to be woken, then this is a basis upon which the action of 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) is built. However, even if we did not find a basis, 'Umar has a Sunnah that is followed.
