Benefits of the Hadith (When it is Friday, the angels stand at the doors of the mosques...)
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In this hadith, there is clear evidence of Allah’s (Mighty and Majestic) care for the believers: angels are stationed at the doors of the mosques, recording the first to arrive, then the next. When will these records be unfolded? On the Day of Resurrection [Al-Isra 17:13].
This also encourages people to arrive early so that they may be among the first. If a person were invited to a feast, where the first guest receives the best dish, the second receives less, the third even less, and the fourth even less, would people not rush to arrive? Yes, they would rush. It is well known that the reward in the Hereafter is better for those who fear Allah. Therefore, we should seize these opportunities.
The imam is an exception to this. The imam should not arrive early; rather, the Sunnah is that he does not come until he intends to pray, as stated in the previous hadiths. Here it says: This indicates that the imam does not arrive early.
As for the belief of some people that the imam should arrive early in the first hour, like others, this is a mistaken error. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not arrive early.
This is similar to those who took the general meaning of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he was asked about fasting on the Day of 'Arafah, where he said:Sunan Ibn Majah 1730Sahih (Darussalam) This is also an error, because it is established that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) was not fasting. One of the Mothers of the Believers, or someone else, sent him milk, and he drank it while people were watching, to confirm that he was not fasting. In fact, it is narrated from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he forbade fasting on the Day of 'Arafah while at 'Arafah. In such matters, a person should be precise in seeking the Sunnah, looking not only at the verbal Sunnah but also at the practical, operational Sunnah. The one who encouraged arriving early for prayer is the one who does not come until he intends to pray, because he is the imam. The same applies to fasting on the Day of 'Arafah: the one who was given a dispensation to fast on the Day of 'Arafah was not fasting at 'Arafah. Therefore, it is not recommended for a pilgrim to fast on the Day of 'Arafah while at 'Arafah. And Allah knows best.
And [for] every person We have imposed his fate upon his neck, and We will produce for him on the Day of Resurrection a record which he will encounter spread open.
