Answer: Fasting the Day of 'Arafah is independent, and it has a great virtue by which Allah expiates the year before it and the year after it. As for the pilgrim, it is not permissible for him to fast on the Day of 'Arafah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood on that day while breaking his fast.
