The questioner : May Allah reward you. Some scholars say it is better to hasten the prayer on the Day of Sacrifice and delay it on the Day of Breaking the Fast?
The Shaykh : This is what the Sunnah established. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to delay the prayer on the Day of Breaking the Fast and hasten it on the Day of Sacrifice.
The wisdom behind this is that the Day of Breaking the Fast begins with the payment of the alms given at the end of Ramadan, so it is appropriate for the imam to delay his arrival to allow more time for people. On the Day of Sacrifice, there is no alms given at the end of Ramadan to be paid to the poor; the poor only benefit from the meat of the sacrificial animals. This requires us to hasten with the sacrifice so that they may benefit from it. Therefore, hastening the Day of Sacrifice and delaying the Day of Breaking the Fast is appropriate.
