Explanation of Hadiths from Umdat al-Ahkam : . . . . . .

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The third thing included in the hadith is:
If one of you wakes up from his sleep, let him wash his hands before putting them into the vessel three times, for one of you does not know where his hand spent the night. إذا استيقظ أحدكم من نومه فليغسل يديه قبل أن يدخلهما الإناء ثلاثاً فإن أحدكم لا يدري أين باتت يده
.
His saying:
If one of you wakes up from his sleep إذا استيقظ من نومه
The word "sleep" is a singular noun in the genitive case. And a singular noun in the genitive case, what does it indicate? Oh students, it indicates generality, so it covers sleep at night and sleep during the day. But his saying:
Where his hand spent the night أين باتت يده
may indicate specification. And what is meant by his sleep is sleep at night, because that is where the overnight stay occurs. And let us take this to be the intended meaning. And Allah knows best the intent of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him). That is to say, if you wake up from sleep at night - just a little bit - if you wake up from sleep at night, do not dip your hand into the vessel. Which vessel? The one you use for ablution. And in the past, they used to perform ablution with vessels, and even perform the full ritual bath with vessels. They would scoop from them and perform the full ritual bath and ablution. Do not dip your hand into this vessel until you have washed it three times, three times. And how do I wash it when I have not dipped it? Describe that for us. How do you wash your hands three times before putting them into the vessel? How do you do it? It is not necessary to mention the name of Allah. It is not necessary. But how do you do it? We say, do not put your hand into the vessel, and wash it three times before putting it into the vessel. From where does he wash it? Here.
