And from him: (When any one of you wakes up from his sleep, he should not dip his hand in the vessel until he has washed it three times, for he does not know where his hand spent the night).

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : And from him, meaning from Abu Hurayrah, that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When anyone amongst you wakes up from sleep, he must not put his hand in the utensil إذا استيقظ أحدكم من نومه فلا يغمس يده في الإناء
Sahih Muslim 278a
The first sentence is a complete match for the first sentence in the previously mentioned hadith, but what follows it contradicts it, for the first hadith contains a command while the second contains a prohibition
he must not put his hand in the utensil till he has washed it three times فلا يغمس يده في الإناء حتى يغسلها ثلاثًا
Sahih Muslim 278a
until he washes it after sleeping three times, meaning three times
for he does’ not know where his hand was during the night. فإنّه لا يدري أين باتت يده
Sunan Abi Dawud 103
And his saying:
He does not know لا يدري
meaning he does not know where his hand spent the night. It is known that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) does not mean whether it spent the night with him on the bed or in a separate place; he does not mean that at all. Rather, he does not know where his hand spent the night in terms of movement and action. It may have moved to dirty places or the like. This is the opinion of some scholars. Therefore, it will be mentioned that they say if the hand spent the night in a leather bag or the like, where a person is certain that it did not touch anything ritually impure, then it does not fall under this hadith. It was also said that he does not know where his hand spent the night from the perspective of the unseen, in that Satan may have played with his hand in his sleep, just as he spends the night on his nose, so he may spend the night on his hand and defile it with filth and impurities that affect the person. This latter opinion is the most likely.
