Fatawa of the Makkah Haram-1420-02b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reader: The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said:
From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When one of you performs wudu, let him put water in his nose and then blow it out, and let the one who cleans himself with stones make it an odd number. And when one of you wakes up from his sleep, let him wash his hands before putting them in the vessel three times, for one of you does not know where his hand spent the night.
. In a wording in Muslim:
he must snuff his nostrils with water فليستنشق بمنخريه من الماء
Sahih Muslim 237b
. In a wording:
Let the one who performs wudu sniff water into his nose. من توضأ فليستنشق
.

The Shaykh : This contains three things. The narrator collected three things in this hadith. The first: sniffing water into the nose during wudu. The second: cleaning oneself with stones. The third: washing the hands after waking up from sleep.
As for the first, which is sniffing water into the nose, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the one who performs wudu to put water in his nose and then blow it out. You take water in your palm, put it in your nose, and sniff it in slightly, then blow it out, meaning you expel this water in order to wash the inside of the nose. This is obligatory because the nose is part of what? Part of what? What? Is the nose part of the face? Yes, because the nose is part of the face. And Allah the Exalted said:
So wash your faces فاغسلوا وجوهكم
. For this reason, the obligation of sniffing water into the nose and rinsing the mouth is indicated by the Qur'an
Wash your faces اغسلوا وجوهكم
. Everyone knows that his nose is on his face, not on his head. If that is the case, it is obligatory to wash it. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to one of the Companions, who was Laqit ibn Sabrah:
Snuff up water freely unless you are fasting. بالغ في الاستنشاق إلا أن تكون صائما
Sunan Abi Dawud 2366Sahih (Al-Albani)
. Good. And is sniffing water into the nose obligatory in the ghusl or not? It is obligatory, a fortiori, because if it is obligatory in wudu, which is for minor ritual impurity, then its obligation in ghusl is even more so, and there is no doubt in this.
