During my arrival in Makkah to perform 'Umrah, I entered the state of ihram before the miqat without an intention, and then a man applied perfume to my head before the miqat. What is the ruling in this matter?

The questioner : A questioner says: During my arrival in Makkah to perform 'Umrah, I entered the state of ihram before the miqat without an intention? And then a man applied perfume to my head before the miqat. What is the ruling in this matter?

The Shaykh : The ruling: Is it possible for anyone to enter the state of ihram without an intention? It is not possible. If a person performs wudu, he does not do so except with an intention. If he gets up to open the door for his friend, he does not do so except with an intention. Yes, if he says, “I intend to enter the state of ihram,” but he has not specified the type of pilgrimage—he did not say 'Umrah, or Hajj, or Qiran—then we tell him to make it 'Umrah, because that is the one he is certain of.
And now that the time has ended, we will limit ourselves to this, and we ask Allah (Mighty and Majestic) to grant us beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds.
