The questioner : I went to Makkah for 'Umrah, but I passed the miqat without entering the state of ihram from it. Instead, I went directly to Makkah and rented a place there. Then I went from Makkah to the miqat and performed the 'Umrah. Some of my brothers told me that I owe a sacrificial animal because I did not enter the state of ihram from the miqat before entering Makkah, although I was unaware of this. May you be rewarded?

The Shaykh : You do not owe a sacrificial animal because you did not enter the state of ihram before the miqat. Rather, you returned to the miqat and entered the state of ihram from there, and this removes the obligation of the sacrifice.
However, if you had entered the state of ihram from Makkah or from a place before the miqat, even if it was outside Makkah, you would owe a sacrificial animal to be slaughtered in Makkah and distributed to the poor. But since you returned to the miqat while in a state of non-ihram and then entered the state of ihram from the miqat, you owe nothing.
