The questioner : We conclude this session, O honorable Shaykh, with a question from the listener Ghada. She also says: A dispute arose between me and my brother, and we were in his house. When the dispute intensified, I became angry and swore that I would never enter his house again. Now I want to visit him. Is the expiation obligatory for me, considering that he has moved from the house where the dispute occurred to another house? And should the expiation be before the visit or after? Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : My advice to this questioner and to others who listen to my words is not to rush into oaths. Rather, if they become angry, let them seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaytan, and not to rush or hasten in taking oaths. And more severe and more evil than that is one who rushes to divorce his wife when he becomes angry, even with the slightest anger, and pronounces the divorce of his wife. This is an error. It is established in Sahih al-Bukhari that a man said: O Messenger of Allah, advise me. He said:
Do not get angry لا تغضب
He repeated it several times, and he said:
Do not get angry لا تغضب
.
As for what concerns the questioner's question.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : We say: Go to your brother in his first house or the house to which he has moved, and expiate for your oath, whether you expiate before going or after going. The expiation before breaking the oath is called tahilah, and after breaking the oath it is called kaffarah. It is feeding ten poor people, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. These three are options. If he does not find the means, then fasting three consecutive days.

The questioner : May Allah reward you, O honorable Shaykh, and may Allah bless you and your knowledge, and benefit the Muslims through you.
O beloved brothers, O noble listening brothers, the honorable Shaykh Muhammad ibn Salih al-Uthaymeen, professor at the College of Sharia and Principles of Religion in Qassim, and preacher and imam of the Grand Mosque in the city of Unaizah, has answered your questions.
May Allah reward him for his eminence, and thank you all. In conclusion, please accept the greetings of my colleague, the sound engineer Sa'd Abd al-Aziz Khumays. And may peace be upon you, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
