Is it permissible to sell goods while they are still in their place?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : O Shaykh, may Allah reward you: Buying a car while it is in the showroom, and then another man comes and buys that same car before it has been moved?

The Shaykh : Yes, this, may Allah reward you, is based on the issue: Is it permissible to sell goods in their place, or not? Some scholars say: It is permissible if the buyer takes possession of it, even if it remains in the place. And some scholars say: This is specific to food, meaning wheat, rice, and the like, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who buys food-rain should not sell it until he has taken possession of it. من باع طعامًا فلا يبعه حتى يقبضه
Sahih Muslim 1525c
But the closer view is that it is general, and that it is not permissible for a person to sell a good in the place where he bought it, especially if there is a profit in it. For example, he bought it for a thousand and sold it for two thousand. And it was said that the hadith was revealed regarding this so that who would regret? Who would regret?

The questioner : The seller.

The Shaykh : Yes, the first seller regrets. He regrets and something arises in his heart regarding the buyer. So his soul says to him, "This man deceived you; he bought it for a thousand and then sold it for two thousand, or for a thousand and one hundred," so something remains in his heart. But if he sold it for its price or less, they said there is no harm, even if it is in its place. But there is no doubt that scrupulousness and complete mindfulness of Allah is not to sell it until you bring it to your home. Yes.
