The benefits of the verse: “It is He who created for you all that is on the earth, then He directed Himself to the heaven and proportioned them as seven heavens, and He is All-Knowing of everything,” and its explanation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the favor of Allah the Exalted upon His servants by creating for them all that is on the earth. Everything is made subservient to us, and praise be to Allah. The wonder is that some of us have become subservient to what was made subservient to us; we served the worldly life, but it did not serve us, and our greatest concern became the worldly life: gathering wealth, acquiring status, and the like.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that the original ruling for what is on the earth is permissibility. Everything on the earth—trees, water, fruits, animals, and so on—has permissibility as its original ruling. This is a great rule. Based on this, if a person eats something from the trees and some people say to him, “This is forbidden,” who is required to provide evidence? The one who forbids it is required to provide evidence. If a person finds a bird flying, shoots it, kills it, and eats it, and another person says, “This is forbidden,” who is required to provide evidence? The one who forbids it. We demand evidence from the one who forbids it. For this reason, nothing on the earth is forbidden except what has evidence established for it.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the confirmation of this generality by His saying:
All of us.جميعا
Although the relative pronoun “ma” indicates generality, Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, confirmed it so that it would not be taken to mean that any individual instance of this generality has been excluded from the original ruling.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the affirmation of the voluntary actions of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, meaning that He does what He wills, as He said:
Then He rose above the heavenثم استوى إلى السماء
“And He directed Himself” is an action, so He, Exalted and Majestic is He, does what He wills. He performs actions that no one can count except Allah, just as He performs words that no one can count except Allah.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is that the heavens are seven, as He said:
seven heavensسبع سماوات
.
Among its benefits is the perfection of the creation of the heavens, as He said:
and He proportioned them فسواهن
meaning He made them proportioned, aligned, and not scattered.
Among the benefits of this noble verse is the affirmation of the comprehensiveness of Allah’s knowledge, as He said:
and He is Knowing of all things.وهو بكل شيء عليم
[Al-Baqarah 2:29]
.
We can derive practical benefits from this verse, among which is that we should thank Allah for this blessing of creating for us everything on the earth. Everything on the earth is created for our sake and is lawful for us, so we must thank Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, for this blessing.
Also, among the practical benefits is that we should fear and be afraid. Why, our brothers? Because Allah is All-Knowing of everything. If Allah is All-Knowing of everything, even what we hide in our hearts, this necessitates that we guard ourselves against what angers Allah, Mighty and Majestic, whether in our actions, our words, or anything else that concerns us.
Then Allah the Exalted said:
And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels وإذ قال ربك للملائكة
[Al-Baqarah 2:30]
... to the end of it. Yes, Muhammad?
