Does the smoke resulting from burning wood or firewood or the like break the fast of the one who is fasting? And does kohl break the fast?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The questioner says, "O honorable Shaykh, does the smoke resulting from burning wood or firewood or the like break the fast of the one who is fasting? And does kohl also break the fast? I hope you will provide us with information on this?"

The Shaykh : Smoke does not break the fast of the one who is fasting, and kohl is the same; it does not break the fast. Even if the taste of the kohl reaches his throat, it does not harm him, according to the stronger opinion among the opinions of the scholars, which was chosen by Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him). This is because this kohl is not eating or drinking, nor is it the equivalent of eating and drinking. The eye is not a customary passage through which food and drink enter the body.
As for smoke, it does not break the fast either, except for one who inhales it until it reaches his stomach; in that case, he breaks his fast. This is because smoke has a substance that penetrates the pores and reaches the stomach. If he inhales it, he has introduced it through a customary passage, for the nose is a customary passage by which a person is nourished when he is unable to be nourished through the mouth. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to al-Qa'ib ibn al-Shirah:
Perform ablution in full and make the fingers go through the beard and snuff with water well except when you are fasting. أسبغ الوضوء وخلل بين الأصابع وبالغ في الاستنشاق إلا أن تكون صائما
Sunan Abi Dawud 142Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
It should be known that all things that break the fast do not break the fast of the one who is fasting if he does them while unaware that they break the fast, or if he forgets that he is fasting. This is based on the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. ربنا لا تؤاخذنا إن نسينا أو أخطأنا
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
So Allah the Exalted said:
He has done so قد فعلت
And based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) regarding one who forgets and eats or drinks while fasting, he said:
then he should complete his fast, for what he has eaten or drunk, has been given to him by Allah. فليتم صومه فإنما أطعمه الله وسقاه
Sahih al-Bukhari 1933
And because it is established in Sahih al-Bukhari from Asma' bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with them both) that they broke their fast on a cloudy day during the time of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and were not ordered to make it up, because they were unaware that it was still daytime. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
