A guiding word by His Eminence the Shaykh regarding the encouragement to strive in worship after Ramadan.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and I send prayers and peace upon the Messenger of Allah, and upon his family and his Companions.
The month of Ramadan of the year 1415, on Thursday, the fifteenth of Shawwal of this year. I ask Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, to make this gathering, and what came before it and what follows it, if Allah wills, a blessed and beneficial gathering. And I give you good news, and praise be to Allah, that Allah has made it beneficial, for He has facilitated those who transcribe the tapes, print them, and distribute them among the servants of Allah. So we ask Allah to reward everyone with good, and to grant us and you beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds.
After the month of Ramadan, and after the Muslims have performed the worship of Allah that they performed in it, some people may experience a decline in righteous deeds, for Satan lies in wait for the servants of Allah, setting traps for them on every path. He has sworn to come to the children of Adam from before them, from behind them, from their right, and from their left, and he said:
I will surely sit in wait for them on Your straight path.
[Al-A'raf 7:16]
But the wise person, when he reflects and considers, knows that there is no end to righteous deeds except by death, as Allah the Exalted said:
And worship your Lord until death comes to you.
and as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When a person dies, his deeds are cut off
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1376Sahih (Darussalam)
So deeds do not cease except by death. Therefore, we should seize the opportunities of life as long as Allah the Exalted has given us health and leisure. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
but take something when in health to serve you in time of illness and something in your life to serve you in your death
Mishkat al-Masabih 1604
And when the month of fasting ends, that does not mean that the worship of Allah the Exalted through fasting has ended. It does not mean that fasting has ended. Rather, fasting remains prescribed at all times. Indeed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The best of fasting is the fasting of Dawud; he would fast one day and break the fast the next
As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 13:288
This necessitates that a person be fasting half of his life, or even more, because Ramadan will pass by him and he will fast a complete month. So fasting, praise be to Allah, remains a prescribed act of worship. There are days on which it is recommended to fast; specific days on which it is recommended to fast include Monday and Thursday. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about fasting on Monday, and he said:
This is the day on which I was born and the day on which I was sent (with the Message of Islam) and the day on which I received revelation.
Bulugh al-Maram 5:31
And he used to fast on Monday and Thursday, and when he was asked about that, he said:
They are two days on which deeds are presented to Allah the Exalted, so I love that my deeds be presented while I am fasting
And it is also recommended to fast three days of every month, whether from the beginning, the middle, or the end. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fast three days of every month and did not care whether he fasted them from the beginning of the month, the middle, or the end. But the best is that they be the three white days: the thirteenth, the fourteenth, and the fifteenth. It is also recommended to fast the nine days of Dhul-Hijjah, for there are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days. Fasting is among the righteous deeds, and this is emphasized on the Day of 'Arafah for those who are not performing Hajj, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding it:
I hope, will expiate for the sins of the previous year
Sunan Ibn Majah 1738Sahih (Darussalam)
And it is also recommended to fast the Day of 'Ashura, and to fast a day before it or a day after it, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) fasted the Day of 'Ashura and encouraged it, and he said:
I hope, will expiate for the sins of the previous year.
Sunan Ibn Majah 1738Sahih (Darussalam)
When he arrived in Madinah, he found the Jews fasting it, so he asked them about it. They said, "It is the day on which Allah saved Moses and his people and destroyed Pharaoh and his people, so we fast it in gratitude to Allah." So the Messenger (may Allah's prayer and peace be upon him) said:
We have a closer connection with Moses than you have
Sahih Muslim 1130a
So he fasted it and ordered the people to fast it. The important point is that the worship of Allah the Exalted through fasting remains prescribed, praise be to Allah. So let us strive to fast so that we may attain its reward, for it came in an authentic hadith that Allah the Exalted said:
Every deed of the son of Adam will be multiplied for him, between ten and seven hundred times for each merit. Allah said: 'Except for fasting, for it is for Me and I shall reward for it.'
Sunan Ibn Majah 3823
As for standing in night prayer, it is also still prescribed, for it is recommended to stand in prayer every night. The best is that it be after the middle of the night until the last third, then the person sleeps for the sixth part, because this is the standing of Dawud, and it is the best of standing. One sleeps for the first half of the night, then stands for the third, then sleeps for the sixth part until the dawn appears. This is because this standing includes rest for the body in the first part of the night and rest for the body in the last part of the night, along with catching the divine descent, which occurs in the last third of the night. Indeed, our Lord, Exalted and Majestic is He, descends every night to the lowest heaven when the last third of the night remains, and He says: "Who is calling Me that I may respond to him? Who is asking Me that I may give him? Who is seeking My forgiveness that I may forgive him?" Therefore, a person finds great pleasure in prayer and addressing Allah the Exalted at this time, to the extent that its taste remains in his heart and does not disappear forever, unless Allah wills. So standing in prayer is prescribed at all times. Do not say that Ramadan has ended so there is no standing. Rather, standing is prescribed at all times, every night. However, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade singling out the night of Friday for standing or its day for fasting, and he said:
Do not choose the Friday night among all other nights for standing in (Tahajjud) prayer, and do not choose Friday among all other days for Saum (fasting)
Riyad as-Salihin 1760
Therefore, it is disliked for a person to fast on Friday alone, except for a reason, such as if Friday coincides with the Day of 'Arafah or the Day of 'Ashura, or if he has a missed fast from Ramadan that he cannot make up except on Friday, in which case he fasts it for the sake of making up the missed fast, not because it is Friday. In that case, there is nothing wrong with it.
Charity is prescribed at all times. At all times, you draw near to Allah the Exalted through charity, and you are rewarded, not an innovator, and not legislating in the religion of Allah what is not from it. Indeed, your daily spending on your family and on yourself is charity, as established from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So the Muslims, praise be to Allah, do all that they do in the month of Ramadan. It is not befitting for them to regret and say that the time for deeds has ended, for this is from the whispers of Satan and his discouragement from good. We ask Allah the Exalted to help us and you in His remembrance, His gratitude, and the excellence of His worship. After this short word, I hope that Allah the Exalted will make me the first to benefit from it, and that He will benefit me and you with what He has taught us.
