The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and I send prayers and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, the Seal of the Prophets and the Imam of the righteous, and upon his family and his Companions, and those who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
As for what follows: We thank Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, for granting us the completion of the month of fasting and standing in prayer in Ramadan. We ask Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, to accept from us all, and to return it to us and to the Muslim community in a state of greater honor than ever, and with the highest remembrance. There is no doubt that in the month of Ramadan, Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, has granted people strength for acts of obedience: prayer, dhikr, reading the Qur'an, charity, fasting, good character, and other things that are well known to many of us. But if Ramadan ends, does the work end? No, the work never ends except by death, as Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said:[Al-Baqarah 2:132]. So Allah the Exalted commanded us to remain upon Islam until death. And Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said: . Al-Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Allah has not set a limit for the work of the believer except death." Then he recited this verse: , meaning until death comes to you. A person knows that time passes quickly and that it all vanishes. One does not advance toward the Hereafter by the year, or the month, or the week, or the day, or the hour, but by the moment. A single moment, like the flash of lightning or the flicker of the eye, distances you from this world and brings you closer to the Hereafter. The wise and resolute person is the one who binds himself, holds himself accountable, and works for what is after death. The weak person is the one who follows his own desires and hopes for false promises. He neglects the obligatory and says, "Allah is forgiving." He violates the forbidden and says, "Allah is the Most Forgiving." He is slow in obeying Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and says, "The mercy of Allah is broader than my work." There is no doubt that this is weakness and a lack of ambition, so let us look at this. The righteous deeds in Ramadan: prayer, standing in night prayer, dhikr, Qur'an—did these deeds stop with the end of Ramadan? No, they did not stop. Fasting remains prescribed. There are days to fast, and by fasting them, one obtains the reward and merit befitting them. So let us begin first with the fasting that follows Ramadan, which is: six days of Shawwal. These six days are in the position of the rawatib (the regular voluntary prayers attached to the obligatory ones) after the obligatory prayer, in the position of the rawatib after the obligatory prayer, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Riyad as-Salihin 1254. So fasting is prescribed. Fasting six days of Shawwal, whether a person fasts them consecutively or separately, he obtains the reward. But there is no doubt that if they are consecutive, it is better. There is also other fasting besides the six days of Shawwal, such as: fasting three days of every month. Fasting three days of every month is fasting the whole year, as established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fast three days of every month, not caring whether he fasted them at the beginning of the month, the middle, or the end. But it is better that they be the white days: the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth. Fasting on Monday and Thursday is prescribed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to fast on Mondays and Thursdays. And he said: Sunan an-Nasa'i 2358Hasan (Darussalam). Fasting the nine days of Dhul-Hijjah is prescribed, because it falls within the generality of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Jami` at-Tirmidhi 757Sahih (Darussalam). And fasting is no doubt a righteous deed, so it falls within the generality. Especially the Day of 'Arafah for one who is not performing Hajj. For fasting the Day of 'Arafah expiates the year before it and the year after it. There is also the fasting of 'Ashura, the tenth of the month of Muharram, which is prescribed. But one should fast a day before it or a day after it. And the best fasting after Ramadan is fasting the month of Allah, the sacred Muharram. There is a broader fasting than all of this. There is a broader fasting than all of this, and it is the fasting of Dawud (peace be upon him). He used to fast one day and break the fast one day. So, praise be to Allah, we have not lacked the prescription of fasting. So fasting is prescribed, and its prescription remains.
Standing in night prayer—did it end with the end of Ramadan? No, standing in night prayer is prescribed every night, as Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):[Al-Isra 17:79] And as Allah the Exalted said in describing the righteous, who are the people of Paradise—may Allah make me and you among them—He said: [Adh-Dhariyat 51:17]. And He said, Exalted is He: [As-Sajdah 32:16-17]. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Muwatta Malik 15:32 Every night. For this reason, a person should make a share for himself of the last part of the night, even if it is small. And let him not belittle anything, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sunan Abi Dawud 1368Sahih (Al-Albani). If you make it half an hour of the last part of the night, in which you stand and pray what Allah wills, and you conclude the prayer with witr, there is much good in that. And you would be among those who stand in the last hours of the night, and those who seek forgiveness in the last hours of the night, so do not deprive yourself of the reward. Go to sleep half an hour earlier so that you wake up half an hour before Fajr. Dhikr, reading the Qur'an—these are still prescribed, praise be to Allah. Reading the Qur'an is prescribed at all times. Whoever reads the Qur'an has ten good deeds for every letter. Dhikr is prescribed. Whoever says: Sahih al-Bukhari 3293. And whoever says: Riyad as-Salihin 1411. And whoever says: Sunan Ibn Majah 3812Sahih (Darussalam). And whoever says: "Subhan Allah wa bihamdih" (Glory be to Allah and praise be to Him), he has attained what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed about regarding this phrase, where he said: . And the gates of good are many. Spending, charity at all times, even what you bring of food for your family, of bread, meat, rice, fruits, watermelon—it is charity. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas: Meaning in the mouth of your wife. So the good is much. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed that: Sahih al-Bukhari 2707. Al-salamah are: the limbs and joints. And in a person there are three hundred and sixty joints. On every joint is a charity every day. But enjoining what is right is charity. Forbidding what is wrong is charity. The kind word is charity. Removing a harmful thing from the path is charity. Helping a man with his mount, carrying it for him or lifting his luggage onto it, is charity. Every step you take to prayer is charity. Every tasbih (glorification) is charity. Every tahlil (declaration of oneness) is charity. Every takbir (declaration of greatness) is charity. Every righteous deed is charity. It is a blessing and much good, but there is laziness. Therefore, I feel myself and you in need of sincere resolve and activity in seeking good and excellence in the worship of Allah, and excellence toward the servants of Allah [Al-Baqarah 2:195]. And do not belittle anything. If Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sees a servant give charity equal to a date, but it is from good earnings, then Allah the Exalted takes it with His right hand and grows it for him as a person grows his foal—meaning the young of his horses—until it becomes like a mountain. So the good is vast, praise be to Allah. Our study now, the student's study in school—is it from the good or not? I ask? It is from the good, as long as he intends by it the Face of Allah, then it is from the good. And he intends by it the Face of Allah, he wants to reach knowledge. He wants to attain a leadership position to lead the community in education, in judgment, in enjoining what is right, in forbidding what is wrong, in administration. Because we have now reached a time when a person cannot be a leader unless he has a certificate. And if you intend by this study to acquire knowledge along with reaching the leadership rank, that is much reward and good. And nothing diminishes your reward, for the gates of good are many.

وَاعْبُدْ رَبَّكَ حَتَّى يَأْتِيَكَ الْيَقِينُHe who observes As-Saum (the fasts) in the month of Ramadan, and also observes As-Saum for six days in the month of Shawwal, it is as if he has observed As-Saum for the whole year.
من صام رمضان ثم أتْبَعَه بِسِت من شَوَّالٍ كان كصيام الدهرَThose are two days in which deeds are shown to the Lord of the worlds, and I like my deeds to be shown (to Him) when I am fasting.

ما من أيام العمل الصالح فيهن أحب إلى الله من هذه الأيام العشرStanding in night prayer—did it end with the end of Ramadan? No, standing in night prayer is prescribed every night, as Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He, said to His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
