The Shaykh : There is no sin upon you for that because you were ignorant. However, it is obligatory for a person to ask the people of knowledge if he does not know, due to the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:[An-Nahl 16:43]. Therefore, the action you performed previously is a rejected, invalid action, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family): Sahih Muslim 1718b. But you will be rewarded, if Allah wills, for your intention. There may have been negligence on your part in not asking the people of knowledge about how to pray upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family).
