The Ruling on Sending Prayers upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Prostration

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The listener (A. S.) from Riyadh sent a message containing several questions. We addressed most of her questions in previous episodes, and two questions remain for her in this episode. The first question asks: Is it permissible for us to send prayers upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during prostration? May Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
Yes, we send prayers upon him. This is supplication. Sending prayers upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is supplication. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The nearest a servant come to his Lord is when he is prostrating himself, so make supplication often.
Sunan Abi Dawud 875Sahih (Al-Albani)
, narrated by Muslim in his Sahih. He also said (peace and blessings be upon him):
Glorify your Lord in Ruku' (bowing posture) and exert yourself in supplication in prostration. Thus your supplications are liable to be accepted.
Riyad as-Salihin 1427
, meaning: so it is fitting that your supplications be answered. This was also narrated by Muslim in his Sahih.
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to supplicate in his prostration and persist in his supplication. So if you praise Allah in your prostration and send prayers upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), this is among the causes of your supplication being answered:
Subhan Rabbial-A'la, Subhan Rabbial-A'la
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1133Sahih (Darussalam)
,
Subhanaka Allahumma Rabbanã wa bihamdika, Allãhumma ighfirli
Sahih al-Bukhari 4293
This is praise of Allah.
All Glorious, All Holy, Lord of the Angels and the Spirit.
Sahih Muslim 487a
, this is said in both prostration and bowing. Prostration is specifically characterized by
Glory be to my Lord, the Most High
, and bowing is specifically characterized by
Glory be to my Lord, the Most High
. As for
All Glorious, All Holy, Lord of the Angels and the Spirit.
Sahih Muslim 487a
, this is in both prostration and bowing. Likewise,
Subhanaka Allahumma Rabbanã wa bihamdika, Allãhumma ighfirli
Sahih al-Bukhari 4293
, this is said in both prostration and bowing.
And if you send prayers upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) after that in prostration, you say:
Say: O Allah! Send Your Mercy on Muhammad and on the family of Muhammad, as You sent Your Mercy on Abraham and on the family of Abraham, for You are the Most Praise-worthy, the Most Glorious. O Allah! Send Your Blessings on Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent your Blessings on Abraham and on the family of Abraham, for You are the Most Praise-worthy, the Most Glorious.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3370
Then you supplicate to Allah after that. This is among the causes of your supplication being answered. Supplicating for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is a means of drawing near to Allah, and it is kindness to your Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); you supplicate for him in prayer that Allah praises him and has mercy on him. Likewise, if you say:
O Allah, send prayers and peace upon the Messenger.
briefly,
O Allah, send prayers and blessings upon the Messenger of Allah.
briefly is sufficient. And if you complete it as it came in the authentic hadiths, that is better and more complete.
Then you supplicate with whatever you wish:
O Lord, forgive me all my sins, small and great, first and last, open and secret.
Sahih Muslim 483
This is from the supplication of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in prostration; he used to supplicate with this supplication (peace and blessings be upon him). And if you supplicate with something else: O Allah, I ask You for Your pleasure and Paradise, and I seek refuge in You from Your anger and the Fire. O Allah, rectify my heart and my deeds, and grant me understanding in my religion. My Lord, increase me in knowledge. O Allah, make me among the guided and those who follow guidance. O Allah, forgive me, my parents, and all the Muslims, and the like of that. You supplicate to your Lord, you ask your Lord: O Allah, expand my chest for me, ease my affairs for me, and make me a blessing wherever I am.
O Allah, rectify the conditions of the Muslims. O Allah, rectify the rulers of the Muslims. O Allah, guide them to what pleases You... and other such good supplications in your prostration. All of this is prescribed and fitting to be answered, especially if it is accompanied by glorification and praise, and sending prayers upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Rarely will you supplicate [in this manner] without it being answered. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
