A woman who left fasting out of ignorance, thinking she was a child, though she had already started menstruating and did not know the signs of a woman reaching puberty: what is required of her?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : This is the mother of Isa saying: "In the beginning of my life, I was in a state of much ignorance. I was about fourteen years old, and Ramadan came upon me while I did not know the nature of the menstrual cycle that marks a woman's puberty. So I fasted one day, and my mother came to me while I was applying kohl. My mother believed that kohl breaks the fast, so she said to me: 'Why are you applying kohl?' Then she said: 'You are still a child.' I used to fast some days and leave others due to my ignorance, my young age, and my lack of knowledge about puberty. So what is the safest course for me, given that I fasted some days in that month of Ramadan? I am now so many years old, so what is the ruling?"
I say: The safest course is to make up the fasting that she missed. If she did not make it up and she was in the desert or in a remote village far from scholars, then she owes nothing.
