The questioner : The questioner asks: Is it permissible for me to delay pregnancy for a temporary period, given that I only give birth via C-section? And how long, in your opinion, should a woman wait between years in such a case? May Allah reward you with good?

The Shaykh : In my opinion, a woman should give birth every year, and there is no blame on her for doing so. Whoever seeks help from Allah, Allah will help him, and whoever relies upon Allah, He is sufficient for him and enough for him. The fact that a woman wants to avoid hardship in pregnancy or childbirth is something that is not possible. Let the woman know that any harm or pain she suffers during pregnancy, at the time of delivery, or in nursing thereafter is, if she seeks reward from Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), an elevation of her ranks and an expiation for her sins. I think that the more children there are, the better and more excellent it is, because this is what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended. He (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged marrying a woman who is loving and fertile. "Loving" means she is affectionate toward her husband, and "fertile" means she has many children. Therefore, we should not deviate from what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) loves.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
