What is the ruling on one who falls asleep in the last prostration of the prayer and does not wake up until the imam says the closing salam?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah preserve you, O Shaykh: A worshipper prayed behind an imam and fell asleep in the last prostration.

The Shaykh : The imam?

The questioner : No, no.

The Shaykh : The ma'mum (one praying behind the imam).

The questioner : The ma'mum (one praying behind the imam).

The Shaykh : Yes.

The questioner : And he did not wake up until the imam said the closing salam. Does he complete the prayer and perform the prostration for forgetfulness, knowing that the imam’s forgetfulness is the follower’s forgetfulness? Or does he not complete it?

The Shaykh : How is the imam’s forgetfulness? The imam did not forget.

The questioner : Does he perform the prostration for forgetfulness now, or not?

The Shaykh : This man who fell asleep in the last prostration, meaning he had only the tashahhud remaining, and when the imam said the salam he woke up and rose from the prostration. We say: this follower performs the tashahhud and says the salam, and he owes no prostration. Why? Because he did not miss anything of the prayer, and the imam bears the prostration for forgetfulness on behalf of the follower if the follower did not miss anything of the prayer.

The questioner : He woke up and said the salam.

The Shaykh : Without the tashahhud?

The questioner : Without the tashahhud.

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for him to perform the tashahhud and say the salam. If he did not remember until after a period of time, or did not know until after a period of time, it is obligatory for him to perform the prayer in full.

The questioner : Does he perform the prostration for forgetfulness now?

The Shaykh : No, if he performs the prayer in full, he does not perform the prostration for forgetfulness.

The questioner : He said the salam with the imam after the prostration.

The Shaykh : Yes, and then he said the salam with the imam.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : And what happened now?

The questioner : He did not perform the tashahhud.

The Shaykh : He said the salam without performing the tashahhud. Therefore, it is obligatory for him to repeat the prayer from the beginning now, meaning he was informed that it is obligatory for him to pray again. Did you understand?
But if he remembered immediately after saying the salam with the imam, remembering that he must perform the tashahhud, he must perform the tashahhud and say the salam, and he does not perform the prostration for forgetfulness. The reason for this is that he followed his imam. Yes.
