What is the ruling on applying perfume after wearing the ihram garments and before making the intention?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : The third question: After I had put on the ihram garments and made the intention while I was at the miqat, one of the brothers handed me some musk to apply to my body and beard. Is there any issue with this? It was about an hour or two after I had put on the ihram. May Allah reward you with good.

The Shaykh : There is no harm in a person applying perfume after wearing the ihram if he has not yet made the intention. However, if he has made the intention, he must not apply perfume.

The questioner : I put on the ihram.

The Shaykh : But I had not made the intention.

The questioner : No, I did make the intention, O Shaykh... and we went back to have dinner. We ate after putting on the ihram, and one of our brothers said: ... I told him, "Apply it..." and we were at the miqat... an hour or two, may Allah know best.

The Shaykh : In any case, the criterion is the intention.

The questioner : I put on the ihram and made the intention.

The Shaykh : The criterion is the intention. If you intended to enter into the rites, you must not apply perfume. But in your specific case, you owe nothing, because Allah says:
Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. رَبَّنَا لا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
and you did not do it intentionally.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : A moment, my brother. You did not intend to take the perfume; you thought it was permissible, so you owe nothing. But in the future, once you make the intention, do not apply perfume, even if you are at the miqat. Yes, from the right, from the right.

The questioner : Our Shaykh, first of all, I would like to say a word about myself and my fellow students. We love you for the sake of Allah and we thank you for what you do in looking after us in matters of our religion and our worldly affairs, and for teaching us. May Allah reward you with abundant good.
