What is the evidence for performing voluntary tawaf?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah forgive you. What is the evidence for performing voluntary tawaf?

The Shaykh : Regarding the voluntary prayer after tawaf, I do not know of any evidence for it other than what is authentically reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that when he performed the arrival tawaf, he went forward to the Station of Ibrahim and recited:
And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer. وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلّىً
[Al-Baqarah 2:125]
and prayed two rak'ahs behind it. The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) extended this ruling to all tawafs, such as the tawaf of Ifadah, the farewell tawaf, and the recommended tawaf. However, I do not know of a specific evidence that one must pray two rak'ahs after every tawaf. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : Take the microphone.

The questioner : The original evidence.

The Shaykh : This original evidence is that it is established from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) that after the arrival tawaf in the Farewell Pilgrimage, he went forward to the Station of Ibrahim and recited:
And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer. وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلّىً
[Al-Baqarah 2:125]
and prayed two rak'ahs. This is established in *Sahih Muslim*. The scholars extended this ruling to all tawafs. Otherwise, I do not recall at this moment that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed two rak'ahs after every tawaf, neither after the tawaf of Ifadah nor after the farewell tawaf. Indeed, if someone were to say that the tawaf of Ifadah appears in the hadith of Jabir that he did not pray, because he mentioned that he performed the tawaf, then he came to Zamzam and drank from it, and he mentioned the hadith. But in Jabir's hadith, he prayed the Dhuhr prayer in Makkah, so it is possible that he prayed after the tawaf and was satisfied with the obligatory prayer instead of the voluntary one, and Allah knows best.
