The questioner : A man was in one area, then he sought the help of a sorcerer to transfer to another area to be closer to his parents so he could be dutiful to them, because he was unable to transfer to that area through official channels. It has been six years since he sought the help of that sorcerer. What is the ruling on the salaries he received during all these years?
The Shaykh : By Allah, this is forbidden for him, and I seek refuge in Allah from it. In fact, it may lead to disbelief, because the sorcerer will seek the help of the devils, and the devils generally do not help anyone except through associating partners with Allah.
The questioner : How does he repent?
The Shaykh : He must repent to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) for what he did. If he repents to Allah for what he did, Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Baqarah 2:275] I would prefer, and I prefer, that he leave this job for another job, because this job is actually a result of something that is not permitted. However, we do not think there is any injustice to anyone in it, so we do not say it is obligatory for him to give it up. But I prefer that he give it up, and I see that, if Allah wills, that is part of the completion of his repentance. Perhaps Allah will make him steadfast if He sees sincerity of intention and repentance to Him from him.
