The reciter: Hareen ibn Sa'd al-Ayili and Ahmad ibn Isa narrated to us, saying: Ibn Wahb narrated to us, saying: Amr informed me from Bakir ibn Wa'uthman from Ibn Khhabab from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri: Sahih Muslim 566.
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
This hadith provides evidence that there is no harm in preventing a person from sitting with someone who is in a state that one dislikes. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified in the hadith preceding this one that onions and the like are not forbidden, but rather their smell is disliked. Therefore, if there are people among you whose smell you dislike, there is no harm in preventing them from attending your gathering. Likewise, there is no harm in standing up and leaving them. It is not said that this constitutes arrogance, because a person cannot bear what he is unable to endure.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) along with his Companions happened to pass by a field in which onions were sown. The people stopped there and ate out of that, but some of them did not eat. Then they (Propbet's Companions) went to him. He (first) called those who had not eaten the onions and kept the others (who had taken onions) waiting till its odour vanished.
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
