The reciter: Hārūn ibn Sa‘īd al-Aylī and Aḥmad ibn Isḥāq narrated to us, saying: Ibn Wahb narrated to us, saying: Amr informed me from ‘Ubayd Allāh ibn Abī Ja‘far, who said: Muḥammad ibn Ja‘far narrated to me from Urwah ibn al-Zubayr from ‘Ā’ishah, who said:
The people used to come to the Friday prayer from their homes in the upper districts, arriving in their cloaks with dust on them, and a smell would come from them. A man from among them came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while I was with him, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If only you had purified yourselves for this day of yours.”
كان الناس ينتابون الجمعة من منازلهم من العوالي فيأتون في العباء ويصيبهم الغبار فتخرج منهم الريح فأتى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إنسان منهم وهو عندي فقال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم : لو أنكم تطهرتم ليومكم هذا
