Some jurists mention the ghusl on the Day of 'Arafah; is this correct?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you. Some jurists mention the ghusl on the Day of 'Arafah, meaning it is among the recommended practices. Is this correct?

The Shaykh : Ibn 'Umar approved the pilgrims doing this. In our view, it is one of the matters where a person takes a ghusl if he needs it, meaning if it refreshes him, he takes a ghusl. But if he does not need it, he does not take a ghusl.

The Shaykh : The chapter on standing on the mount. This question is long, from Sa'd al-Jaloud; we gave a summary of it.

The questioner : ... that the intended meaning is entering ihram in the months of Hajj before the months... he cited as evidence a verse that the hadith...

The Shaykh : Ah, okay, and what? He cited as evidence what?

The questioner : That entering ihram may occur before...

The Shaykh : Did you not ask me about this before? Perhaps no one else has. In any case, this verse indicates that Hajj is not valid in other than the months of Hajj, because He arranged the rulings of the rites upon those who intend it in them. He said:
Hajj is [during] well-known months, so whoever has made Hajj obligatory upon himself therein [by entering the state of ihram], there is [to be for him] no sexual relations and no disobedience and no disputing during Hajj. And whatever good you do - Allah knows it. And take provisions, but indeed, the best provision is fear of Allah. And fear Me, O you of understanding. فمن فرض فيهن الحج فلا رفث
[Al-Baqarah 2:197]
And the implication of the condition is that one who intends Hajj in other than them, his ihram is not valid, necessarily, because if the rulings based on ihram are negated, then the ihram is negated.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Yes...

The questioner : One who enters ihram from Khorasan, has he not entered ihram before the miqat?

The Shaykh : Before the miqat, without a doubt. But first: we say that the action of a Companion is not a proof if it contradicts the text; that is one point. And second: perhaps he entered ihram from Khorasan, meaning he intended ihram from Khorasan. The important thing is that the stronger opinion in this issue is the opinion of al-Shafi'i, that if one enters ihram for Hajj before its months, it becomes an 'Umrah.
