Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : I came from Egypt to perform 'Umrah, and I entered ihram from the ship. I disembarked in Jeddah to go to Makkah, but I was unable to reach Makkah due to unforeseen circumstances, and I was forced to break my ihram. I went to perform 'Umrah the next day. Do I owe a fidyah? Please advise us, and may you be rewarded.

The Shaykh : You do not owe a fidyah because you were ignorant. Breaking your ihram without a valid legal excuse that permits you to exit the state of ihram has no effect. Therefore, it is obligatory for you in the future, if you enter ihram for 'Umrah or Hajj, to remain until you complete the 'Umrah and Hajj and exit the state of ihram from them, unless you are prevented by a legal barrier that permits you to exit the state of ihram. In that case, you exit the state of ihram and slaughter a hady for your exit, based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
But if you are prevented, then [offer] what can be obtained with ease of sacrificial animals فَإِنْ أُحْصِرْتُمْ فَمَا اسْتَيْسَرَ مِنَ الْهَدْيِ
[Al-Baqarah 2:196]
.

The questioner : May Allah bless you.
