Is it permissible for the wife's mahr to be the husband's memorization of the Book of Allah, by analogy to the mahr of Umm Sulaym, which was the condition of her husband's Islam?

The questioner : Is it valid for the mahr to be the husband's memorization of the Qur'an, by analogy to the mahr of Umm Sulaym from Talhah, where it was Islam?

The Shaykh : The mahr must be something that benefits the wife, based on the saying of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
And give the women وآتوا النساء
What is it?
their gifts as a free gift صدقاتهن نحلة
And what benefit does the wife have if the husband is a memorizer of the Qur'an? Therefore, it is not valid for the mahr to be the husband's memorization of the Qur'an. If someone were to say: "Did it not pass to us that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a man:
I have given you her in marriage for the part of the Qur'an which you know. زوجتكها بما معك من القرآن
Sunan Abi Dawud 2111Sahih (Al-Albani)
?" The answer is: Yes, it passed to us, but the Messenger said:
with what you have بما معك
The preposition "ba" indicates substitution, and the meaning is that what you have of the Qur'an will be her mahr. For this reason, it came in some narrations:
So teach her. When he said: "What do you have with you?" He said: "Such and such a surah." He said: "Teach her." فعلمها لما قال : ما الذي معك ؟ قال : سورة كذا وكذا . قال : علمها
The correct view is that it is not permissible for the husband's memorization of the Qur'an to be the mahr for the wife, because she does not benefit from it in any way, and the mahr is only for the benefit of the wife. Yes.

The questioner : May Allah reward you.

The Shaykh : Now, teaching the Qur'an is permissible. One may say: "I give her my mahr on the condition that I teach her Surat al-Baqarah." Is this permissible or not? It is permissible, whether the teaching is of the recitation or of the meaning. Yes.
