Is it prescribed to recite [And take the station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer] behind the Maqam?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : May Allah reward you, O Shaykh. Some of the exegetes mentioned regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And take, [O believers], from the standing place of Abraham a place of prayer.
[Al-Baqarah 2:125]
that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to, after the tawaf, turn toward the Maqam of Ibrahim and pray two rak'ahs behind it, then recite this verse. The question is: Can it be said, is it possible to say, that it is prescribed to recite this verse, meaning for a person performing 'Umrah or others, following the example of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? Is the hadith regarding this authentic?

The Shaykh : The hadith is in *Sahih Muslim*, from the well-known long hadith of Jabir: كان إذا فرغ من الطواف تقدم إلى مقام إبراهيم وقرأ حين تقدم وَاتَّخِذُوا مِنْ مَقَامِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ مُصَلّىً He used to, when he finished the tawaf, move forward to the Maqam of Ibrahim and recite when he moved forward: And take the station of Ibrahim as a place of prayer This is so that he makes himself aware that he is only moving forward to this Maqam to pray behind it in obedience to the command of Allah. When he approached al-Safa, he recited: Indeed, al-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah. I begin with what Allah began with so that he makes himself aware that this sa'y is among the symbols of Allah, and that he begins with al-Safa because Allah began with it. And likewise, we should in every act of obedience make ourselves aware that we are doing it in obedience to the command of Allah. For example, wudu': most of us perform wudu' now on what basis? Answer: that wudu' is a condition for the validity of the prayer. That is what is in the mind of the person. But one should intend by it that he is obeying His saying, the Exalted:
O you who have believed, when you rise to [perform] prayer, wash your faces
[Al-Ma'idah 5:6]
so that he feels the worship and the humility before Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Likewise, he performs wudu' now in a specific manner; he should be aware that by doing so he is following the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so that he combines between sincerity and following. This is a matter, and we neglect it a lot, we often neglect it. We say we perform wudu' because we believe that wudu' is a condition for the validity of the prayer, but that we are aware that this is from the command of Allah is better. So, it is appropriate for the person, when he finishes the tawaf and moves forward to the Maqam of Ibrahim, to recite this verse. And when he approaches al-Safa for the first time, when he approaches al-Safa, not when he climbs it, he should say:
Indeed, as-Safa and al-Marwah are among the symbols of Allah
[Al-Baqarah 2:158]
and he does not repeat it a second time, neither at al-Safa nor at al-Marwah. Yes.
