My grandmother, my mother’s mother, breastfed me along with my maternal uncle. Is it permissible for my maternal uncle’s children to marry my daughters, and vice versa?

The Shaykh : She breastfed you.

The questioner : She breastfed me along with my maternal uncle. So, is it permissible now for my maternal uncle’s children to marry my daughters, and vice versa?

The Shaykh : You were breastfed.

The questioner : Yes, Shaykh.

The Shaykh : Were you breastfed by your grandmother?

The questioner : I was breastfed by my grandmother.

The Shaykh : How many times?

The questioner : For two years, two complete years.

The Shaykh : Fine, if five breastfeedings make him her son, then he is not her son, is he? I am asking you: Are you her son?

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Fine, and your maternal uncle is your brother.

The questioner : My brother through breastfeeding.

The Shaykh : Your maternal uncle is your brother through breastfeeding. Your daughters, he is their paternal uncle. Your daughters, he is their paternal uncle, and his daughters, you are their paternal uncle.

The questioner : So, it is not permissible for him to marry?

The Shaykh : Perhaps we will marry his sister’s daughter, I do not know.
