What is your advice to one who is lax about his son or daughter traveling to the lands of disbelief upon marriage, even if he were to prevent them, they would refuse?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : His EminenceThe Shaykh : Among the trials that some young people, may Allah guide them, face is traveling abroad with their wives, whether after the marriage or during vacations. We ask you, Your Eminence, to kindly answer these questions, so that Allah may benefit those who seek good and safety from sins and trials for their families and themselves. First: If the father or mother knows that if they swore an oath to their son or daughter, or pressured them, they would not travel abroad, is it permissible for them to swear an oath to them or not? And what is your advice to fathers who know that their sons or daughters will travel abroad after marriage but do not prevent them, on the excuse that the sin of the child is upon him, and that the daughter is the property of her husband, who is responsible for her after marriage?

The Shaykh : It is well known that traveling abroad, and by abroad I mean the lands of disbelief, is originally forbidden. It is originally forbidden, so it is not permissible except with three conditions. The first condition: that the person has knowledge with which to repel the doubts that are raised there, because there are disbelievers who raise doubts regarding Allah (Mighty and Majestic), regarding the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and regarding the Qur'an. Did you understand? So the person must have knowledge with which to repel these doubts.
The second condition: that he has worship, worship that prevents him from desires. That is, he must have religion that prevents him from desires, because the door to desires is open there: intoxicants, unlawful sexual intercourse, sodomy, everything is free for the person. And I say: free in terms of the current concept. As for complete freedom, it is worshipping Allah (Mighty and Majestic), because whoever does not worship Allah worships his desires and Satan. Did you understand? And in this, Ibn al-Qayyim says:
"They fled from the slavery for which they were created *** and were afflicted by the slavery of the self and Satan"
What is the slavery for which we were created? Slavery to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and servitude to Him. And they were tried with the slavery of the self and Satan
Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoiner of evil إِنَّ النَّفْسَ لَأَمَّارَةٌ بِالسُّوءِ
[Yusuf 12:53]
and Satan commands you to do indecency. These are two conditions. The third condition: the urgent need for travel, such that the person is traveling for a matter he does not find in his country, and the need calls for it. And other than that, the original ruling is prohibition. And we said: the original ruling is prohibition because it entails, first: spending a lot of money, is that not so?
Second: the danger to the religion, the danger to the creed.
Third: the danger to morals.
Fourth: the danger to customs, for some people pick up these customs and bring them to their country, imitating them, thinking that this is progress and advancement. And similarity in customs leads to similarity in creeds and acts of worship. For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who copies any people is one of them. من تشبه بقوم فهو منهم
Sunan Abi Dawud 4031Hasan Sahih (Al-Albani)
If that is the case, and this son who has just married wants to travel with his wife in what is called the honeymoon, and he is feared for these dangers, and the father is able to prevent him by swearing an oath to him, let him swear an oath to him and prevent him. He has the right to do so, because he is responsible for him. Allah the Exalted said:
O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَاراً وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ
[At-Tahrim 66:6]
and your families وَأَهْلِيكُمْ
And this is considered part of his family as long as he obeys him in what he says. Did you understand? But if the need arises and the three conditions I mentioned to you are met, then he may travel with his wife, and he is a trustee over her. And his traveling with her is more preferable in that he protects his private parts and is safe for his family, and he relieves his family, especially in the beginning of the marriage. Clear? Good. No question, just one, there is nothing after it.
